Shooting ourselves in the foot.

Juggling a social life, school work and extra mural activities cant be easy. But  we need it because we need to have a balance . Its very healthy, physically and mentally , it keeps you on you toes, it keeps you sharp and on top of you game.
Competion stimulates the brain, as you compete you devise stratergies compose your own personal theories , test them out and we discard the ineffective ones.
With all of this been said there are also downfalls for a demanding lifestyle , time management. Like neglecting the family , you dont have time to yourself and doing too much of one thing you end up Shooting yourself in the foot . In terms of school work , we all know that students master procastination, I for one tends to leave things for the last minute and it always ends up slapping me in the face. So let me know what is your take on this matter , are you like me "a procastinator" or are you hands on do things in time and dont bite more than you can chew?

When the going gets tough , the tough get going.

Is striking (boycotting) the only way of fixing our problems?
So now the e-toll is going ahead whether we like it or not, so what does the Cosatu do they plan a strike. Petrol prices increase what do South Africans do? strike of course. Labour related matters we strike, problems at school and institutions striking is the way forward. my question here is ,Is striking the only way to resolve problems in South Africa particularly . Are there no other strategies of normal communicating and coming up with solutions that will please both parties?

Before we can criticise this idea lets just look at the effects of striking.
  1. time and money is wasted in terms of people not going to work and risking losing the income for that day.
  2. It leaves our streets in an unbearable states in terms of burnt tires and so forth.

Can we shift our mindsets to better communication and rather better negotiating skills , sitting down and trying to find means of agreeing with each other to please both parties. Its time to put down our weapons and do things in a proper ethical manner.

THE UNTOLD IN JOB-HUNTING.

IT COULD BE YOU , OR ME!

Human trafficking  reasons
The crime in South Africa comes in all sizes and shapes, when I heard of this particular criminal activity I was in pure shock. Human trafficking is a very serious crime where children are being taken away from their family's and loved ones and are taken for all kinds of reasons , some to be sex slaves other are even sold to desperate women that can't give birth and are in desperate need of a kid. It does not stop there there is a new trend now and it is so prominent in student towns places like Auckland park Johannesburg, yes the very place where UJ students reside . Well if you have heard nothing about it let me educate you, A month ago I had registered my name on the website for job seeking and I had left my numbers with several companies and on several websites, two weeks back I received a phone call from a Mr Peters saying I should come to Berea Johannesburg CBD on the Friday for promotions castings . So anxious I was on the Thursday I asked a friend of mine to escort me as she resides in that area just to see where I will be going to the next day and to avoid seeking for the place in the morning . We spent half an hour looking for the Address he gave me, So I later decided that  I was not even going to attend those castings as the arrangements were dodge. To cut a long story short he called me the morning of the casting to confirm with me whether or not I was coming I told him that the address was non existent and he told me to meet up with him at Mc Donald's Campus Square . I went there with a couple of my guy friends called him to find out where he was the number was disconnected ,he called to ask me what I was wearing to easily identify me, I told him and he said he can see me but wouldn't tell me where exactly he was in McDonald's because he was furious that I was accompanied by males . The moral of the story Is this man would've  been a scam or either a perpetrator of Human trafficking .

We should be very cautious about who we give our personal information to and who we send our CV to especially now that we are in varsity and we get exposed to promotions and will at a stage have to apply for an internship.

It is important to
  • research the company ,
  • ask the person calling you where they got your contacts from and
  • if you are suspecting any funny business, get his/her identity to later confirm with that company.
  • DO NOT at any stage give out your address to any prospective job before an interview for security reasons
Job seeking can be a stressful process especially if nothing is coming your way but never the less, add extra precautionary measures when job hunting. You never know you could be a victim of human trafficking its not only children that are targeted  men, women you name it .
BE WISE AND APPLY CAUTION.

NHI winning or loosing campaign?

South Africa is at it again , but this time its a health insurance that will help those that cannot afford to pay for their medical needs at private hospitals. The National Health Insurance commonly referred to as NHI will ensure that everyone has access to appropriate, efficient and quality health services. It will be phased-in over a period of 14 years. This will entail major changes in the service delivery structures, administrative and management systemswww.utipharma.co.za

THE BUDGET THAT IS BEING PUT ASIDE FOR THIS INSURANCE

HEALTH CARE WORKER ATTENDING TO PATIENT.

NHI is intended to ensure that all South African citizens and legal residents will benefit from health care financing on an equitable and sustainable basis. NHI will provide coverage to the whole population and minimise the burden carried by individuals of paying directly out of pocket for health care services. The World Health Organisation is in full support of this project.
All I want to see is great service delivery in hospitals , people that could go to private facilities now being able to go , better and effective medicines for patients and fair and equal treatment for all.
There is a norm in public hospitals of nurses not treating patients with the respect they need and not helping them in time . In one African country , health care workers scare pregnant patients http://www.africanews.com the treatment that patients get shouldn't differ because of institutions , or rather yet patients should be taken seriously attended to and treated like high priority regardless of whether they are in a private or public hospital.

Whistle blowing.

Are we instilling a fashion of complaining about dissatisfaction , and doing nothing about those concerns and worries? I often hear people complaining about services delivery in their communities and country but it only ends there, are we resorting to fearing the unknown ? I have all these question and expect them to be answered by our people . The fear of people  losing their popularity,  because of questioning why some things are the way thy are and not being afraid of voicing their thoughts .

Corruption in South Africa

"We are at a tipping point and [former president Nelson Mandela's] warning that 'our hope for the future depends also on our resolution as a nation in dealing with the scourge of corruption', remains valid," Madonsela said. www.timeslive.co.za/politics/2012/04/03
Thuli  Madonsela mentioned in her speech at Cape Town earlier this month that
"We believe that public accountability is critical for good governance and effective combating of corruption,"
it was important to strengthen whistle-blower protection and usage, while media freedom was also important.
"Without transparency, accountability is impossible. In this regard it's important to strengthen our whistle-blower protection and usage. Media freedom is also important."
Corruption has given a rise in South Africa , to an extent that even the police themselves are helping the wrongdoers . they are the people we should be looking up to and looking to for help. with thus been said if people are found being wrong and being corrupt in your area report them immediately , I often hear of people speaking of corruption with driving licenses and the difficulties they encounter when they want to obtain their licenses which in fact is very unfair . So with whistle blowing campaign they are basically trying to eradicate corruption and i believe this will help alot.
